Sounds totally unenforcable to me. I would like to see some "John Greentree" hippie bastard come up in these hills and try to stop the locals from fishing. You would find them hanging in a tree by their nuts with some high test spiderwire.

The money spent on fishing is huge. Fishing license, bate, boats, tours, boat launch and storage.
That would put a lot of people out of work, lost income for state DEC would be a disaster.
Hope and change. how's it working out for ya? :x

Watch it, I'm a gun toting tree hugger

You can't hunt from a smokestack or an oil derrick and can't fish in a cesspool. Tree huggers fixed Lake Erie.

The no-access BS the goof-balls preach is ridiculous.

I was reading up on it a little. There appears to be a thin distinction between recreational and commercial fishing. The goal being a "sustainable resource".

I'm for keeping it going. Minnesota manages inland lakes and for the most part it has helped tremendously.

Red Lake in northern MN a few years ago was closed to walleye fishing for several years because it was fished out commercially. shallow flat lake 20-40 feet deep everywhere. Gill netted the crap out of it. While the walleye were being restocked and given a chance for a few different breeding aged to set in the black crappie thrived. 2-3pound crappies were normal. They were so thick you could see miles long schools of them from airplanes. In Fisherman broke the story and 3 years later avg size is down to 1.125 pound and you got to work to get your limit. Limit before was 50 per day now it's 15 and folks are struggling to fill out.

Not everybody will abuse a system but somebody always will.

see that's my point though. It's really NOT us private citizens that have ever been the problem. We dpn't drag nets along the freaking lakes nabbing everything in our wake. hell the closest we come to that are the net fishers on the rivers doing it the traditional way of cast and retrieve. Also, if we aren't allowed to fish any longer, you're talking alot of lost revenue to combat the problem in the form of licensing and fees. NY is in danger of closing 38 State funded parks and reserves as it is, if we lose more money, they'll have no way to protect them at all. But hety, maybe that's what O'Bomba is going for...

I think if they want to impose limits or bans, let them do it to the problem, which is the huge commercial fishing companies that drag nets for miles and sell 80% to Japan/Asia. We always seem to overlook the little guy.

The crappie over harvest on red lake was a private citizen problem. Some folks aren't smart enough to think that if 5 guys go fishing on one weekend, that each taking 2 daily limits for a total around 1000 pounds of fish, might be a problem. These same type of hobby fisherman complain that the metro crappies are too small and difficult to clean; however they will ice fish for them when walleye get a reprieve.

Some folks you need to make laws for. Some folks you need to put warning labels on restroom towel dispensers so they don't accidentally hang themselves. Some folks you gotta tell them that Cialis and Viagra wont prevent STDs or pregnancy.
There's just too many dumb bastards out there to let them run around without a leash.

I have a picture of my Father and a group of about 20 people taken about 1955 at lake Milacs. The fish were all about 3 feet or longer, you do not see stringers like that any more.

My grandparents used to fish in lake kabetogama (amongst other places)and catch limits every day for a week or two. After hearing those stories and seeing how few fish were left, I took on catch and release.
The best fishing here in Cali is in rivers where it's limited or no take.

you ever wonder where all that walleye comes from at those small town Catholic fish fries during Lent.

1. Ummm you're only allowed one daily limit per licensed fisher-person or youth per household. You can catch another personal limit but you either need to gift it or eat it before going home

2. I don't see anybody in line bringing their own fish

3. you are only allowed 1 limit for each license in the cooler during transport

3. I know you can gift fish to people but I think you are supposed to spread that out so that nobody has more than their limit for their household.

4. I don't think you're supposed to sell the fish.

And what about my relative who feeds walleye to 20 people on Memorial Day...

hmmmm makes you wonder...fishing to feed other people...that almost sounds like a commercial endeavor...a guy might need a special license for that...I bet it costs more than $15.

That's the fee the state needs to the maintain natural resources for just one user. Fishing is kinda self-regulating. Not everybody has the time, money or desire to go fishing. So when one guy goes over his limit or thinks he can just gift all the extra fish away, all he is doing is raping his own pastime and stealing fishing opportunities from others.

5. I think they call that poaching. It's a crime for a good reason.

If you get off on hooking fish that's great. If you aint gonna eat them yourself, throw them back. Try not to gut hook them. Don't try to pay for your $22,000 Lund Tyee in fillets. We don't need proof that you caught a bunch of 'em. We bow to your greatness, your massive worm wiggling prowess and perhaps your wisdom for helping to maintain the sport for others to come.
